Article: “I was an addict” – ‘Straits Times IN’ Section (In The Air Pg 2)

1a) What are some of the earliest signs mentioned in the article to indicate that a person is addicted to gaming?

Ans:

- The earliest sign that a person is addicted will be first, skipping meals and lost sleep, followed by calling yourselves using in-game/avatar name, talking about games all the time and also times when you suddenly started to imagine things.

1b) State some of the methods listed by the author to overcome the addiction to gaming.

Ans:

- After decided that she needed to find some balance in her life rather than playing games, the first method to overcome was to get her mother to lock up the computer to prevent her from playing. Socialize more also help, by talking to her friend other topic that’s not related to gaming such as, talking about guy who had just moved into her neighbourhood.


2) What are some of your reactions after reading this article? If a close friend of yours confesses to you that he/she is addicted to online games, what would your advice to him/her be?

Ans: After reading this article, I feel that not only is the author addicted to gaming but also many people out there are addicted to playing of computer games. If a close friend confesses to me that he/she is addicted to online game, I definitely advise him/her to stop, as addiction to computer gaming was no laughing matter. It could harm, both physical and psychologically.
