Article: “Government acts to curb younger smokers” (Pg A1 & A4)

Questions:

1. What are some measures by the government to curb smoking?

ANS: Some of the measures to curb smoking are to increase the fines and the price of cigarettes so as to make it unaffordable for people who smoke, to ban of certain tobacco products, barring some places from selling them and also, lowering permitted tar and nicotine levels.

2. How successful do you think these measures would be? Support your answer with reasons.

ANS:

I think these measures would be effective/ successful.
By increasing the fines and the price of cigarettes, in long terms, will make it expensive or unaffordable and results in the decrease of people who smoke. Banning of certain tobacco product, barring some place from selling them, and lowering permitted tar and nicotine levels to decrease the addictive to the drugs.
